Durango is a mid-sized town in southwest Colorado, at the foot of the scenic San Juan Mountains. It has a variety of fun activities to keep you busy while visiting, including biking, skiing, vacations, and train rides on the famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

Founded in 1880 as a refining town and rail junction for Silverton, 45 miles north, steam trains continue to run along the spectacular old.  Durango & Silverton RR: The train ride is long and slow (6 hours) and worth every minute of it.  The advent of the train’s arrival heralded a period of growth that did not wane until the first decade of the twentieth century.  While it may be nostalgic in appearance, the train operates in a modern context, reflecting the values and realities of American society today.  This historic train has been in continuous operation for 126 years, carrying passengers behind vintage steam locomotives and rolling stock indigenous to the line.  In many ways, The Silverton is a symbol of trains everywhere.
